I’ve been at this school for four years. I went on maternity leave last year from December- April. Found out I was pregnant again in May. Would need maternity leave again. Went in to sign my contract and was told I’d be placed on a performance improvement plan from now until November. I have NEVER had a bad observation or been told of any changes I need to make. Javadi essentially says “but that much morphine is going to kill her isn’t it?” and Robby basically says “yeah but it’s the merciful thing to do.” uh, what? sorry, last time i checked, comfort care and continuous morphine drips/PCAs are not medically assisted euthanasia. that’s literally hospice 101. of course, The Pitt is not responsible for teaching the public how healthcare works. however, people are going to see this and get scared that morphine at end of life is what is going to kill their loved one and not the cancer, heart failure
This is something I have been mulling over for a while. Society has changed. Education is now a customer service product and we are expected to deliver what the parents and society want: well educated, well mannered, well rounded emotionally stable people. What I think has been lost is that public schools are a free *public service*. Citizens were once grateful for the equalizing opportunities free public access to quality education granted. Instead the public feels we are supposed to do everything for children and society. Everyday you hear something like schools should teach kids how to change tires and make budgets. Schools need to teach kids to regulate their emotions. Schools need to teach kids cursive. You also hear from the when school is over it is family time and if schools can’t do their job during their workday it’s their problem, or my kid don’t act like that at home. I'm not new to the demands of nursing school. I completed the LPN program last year, which was intense with 1 to 2 exams a week and two consecutive 8-hour clinical days. I know what I'm getting myself into. What i suddenly don't feel ready for is another year of stress, constant deadlines, having to coordinate my schedule with my job, and just generally not having time for anything else but school. I feel scared to go back into a hospital setting for clinical (I work in an office right now) My wife and I have planned a lot of our future around my post-grad career prospects, and so I feel this immense pressure to stick with it, and even more pressure to do well so I don't fail or lose my funding. I am in an accelerated direct-entry MSN program and just finished my first semester and first clinical rotation. I was excited to finally be able to apply for PCA/PCT/Student Nurse roles at the hospitals around town so I can get more patient experience and obviously money. I have applied to probably 15-20 jobs so far and have only gotten phone screens for two positions and have been rejected from every other one. The quickest rejection was literally 7 hrs from submitting my app to getting the rejection email. I am soooooo annoyed and frustrated because I don't know if it's me, the economy, or something else. Does anyone have any insight about what to highlight in applications or how to make my application stand out among I'm sure a much more qualified slate of candidates?? I graduated from college about a year and 4 months ago. I got my degree in secondary education with minors in earth science and meteorology. I live in a highly competitive area for teaching jobs so I’ve only interviewed for a few jobs but never got any offers for full time work. Last school year I did land a 3 months ago long term sub position. I really enjoyed my students, the staff, and the school culture at that school. Public education in America has been getting worse for a while. That much isn't really debated. The issue of expulsions and discipline is. From what I gather, opponents of expulsions are generally against them because the outcomes for the student are much worse. I don't dispute that. Getting expelled is probably stressful and embarrassing. It puts a lot of stress on families who are already struggling. However, the tradeoff to not expelling students is beginning to cause serious issues. Parents have noticed that extremely violent students are allowed in the classroom with seemingly no solutions or consequences. The research says that students can't be expelled, local, state, and federal policies prevent it, and so schools don't expel anymore. I think public schools have painted themselves into a corner. I literally can’t believe I’m typing this. I made a post earlier about how I haven’t gotten my rosters or schedule in the first week, but deleted it because we were told it would be done by Monday. Well, it’s now been two weeks into the school year and we STILL don’t have our schedule. We’re doing rotations with a single grade, but the times are fucked and the rotations are random. Considering the very dire job market in California as a new graduate RN, I’m now looking to apply to jobs in Texas. I’ve already submitted the application for license endorsement as well as paid for Nursys verification, but now I need to do fingerprinting. I already pre-enrolled with Indentogo. The Texas BON states that I, as a California resident, need to do an FD-258 hard card fingerprinting via a law enforcement agency. I have a few questions about that. Do I have to provide the form or would the law enforcement agency have it? How would the Texas BON know that I did it through a law enforcement agency? I am a nurse working in an OBGYN office. I have worked under my APP since I start last May. In recent times, the workplace has become seriously more stressful with workload and short staffing, but we get though the days. I’ve always liked my provider and we have always gotten along. The other day she came to me and notified me that she would not be providing/prescribing contraception for birth control because it against her religion. She will do it for menorrhagia but not for a birth control. When she told me, I said okay and went about the day, but I now can’t help but see her in a different light. She is a catholic. I moved back to NYC immediately and have been applying nonstop (150+ applications). I finally got an interview. Now here's the thing: Its a children's hospital in westchester. According to the recruiter and the website, they have a lot of higher acuity patients such as vents, trachs, central line, G-tube care, etc. It is a specialty hospital focusing on complex care patients rehabilitation. My dream starter job was PICU, but obviously I learned very early on that wasnt going to happen. If I take this job, what are the odds I can later qualify to be hired at one of the big name hospitals in the city as a PICU nurse? Or should I keep applying. 175 questions, 25 of them do not count, they do not tell you which ones. Took 110 minutes of the 3 hrs, got up to stretch and pee twice. The test givers do not mess around, I had to flip my pockets and get wanded every time in and out even if I was in full view. But I passed. And I have got to say... What an asinine dumb ass test. 70% of the material covered i have NEVER seen in my 8 years as a nurse working at a lvl 2 and 3 ER. Medications I have never heard of or are not actively used anymore because they've been replaced with newer methods / new generations of meds. The study book? I need some prerequisites so I’ll be working on those first and then nursing school if all goes well. I’ve chosen a very affordable school and I have a car, housing. No debt will be taken on. I have a bachelor’s degree. I have always been interested in nursing as a career. How do these educators who clearly have zero management or people skills keep getting admin positions? During this teacher return week my admins have: told a teacher "You should get Depends" when they expressed worries after an emergency surgery. Not communicated to our grade level team how teacher switching in a departmentalized grade (rather than student switching) is going to work. This is especially egregious because the new teachers were not informed of this when hired. We have received zero modeling, zero resources, and absolutely no money to purchase any extra teaching tools to support this teacher switch. The newest admin taught a sibling of mine over 30 years ago and his first words to me were "Oh your parents didn't like me". Like what? unprofessional much? Been doing this for awhile but this year I've got the toughest kid I've encountered. He's extremely adhd and vocal. Won't stop moving and won't stop talking. He starts at a regular desk. A little bit into the day he gets antsy and i move him to a table in the back where he can wiggle more. Talking never stops. In fact today he started singing. My admin suspended him for half a day. I asked about getting him an IEP or behavioral plan and they were dismissive and unhelpful. It’s my first year! I don’t know how I’m going to make it through the year. When I called admin to report the incident he grabbed the phone cord and pulled it. He tried to rip up the letter that was going home with him. I found out I was pregnant this summer and after the joy wore off the “holy crap how am I going to do this,” sunk in. Here’s the main concern: last year I did all four NBCT components and, naturally, burned through a ton of my leave (I’m carrying over three days 😬). My due date is March, which means tons of unpaid leave (my state does not offer paid maternity leave), but it also means tons of appointments before I even deliver. I’m trying to schedule appointments after work, but it’s been really difficult so far, so I’m really worried about using up all my leave and going negative. I’m hoping my admin will be flexible and let me go to some of them during my planning (we have 84 min blocks) which mine leads right into our hour-long lunch block/study hall time. Hello! I have decided to go back to nursing school and I started this week. However, I have always struggled hearing blood pressure, the 2 step, I know how it should sound and I am unable to hear it on both of my stethoscopes. I have both a Littmann III and littmann lightweight, I have been told but other instructors I may need an amplified one but I decided against it. I have finally decided that I need to get one and would like some help deciding which to get. I know they’re expensive, but I have money set aside and I can actually spend it without worrying. Any recommendations. As I enter my 8th year, I am looking for new ways to eat well and save time during the school year. I typically do a bunch of cooking on the weekend to avoid being in the kitchen Monday-Friday. Well, it’s been a minute since this happened, but I think I’m ready to talk about this. It’s been pretty stressful TBH, but I’m happy to share my experience. Here goes: So I had a semi-clinical position in critical care. Lots of my duties are admin, but I am an experienced nurse with 10+ years of ICU and ED experience. At times, charges would ask me to take on a patient for a while if we got slammed until they could figure out staffing (call in a nurse, next shift starts, whatever). Our unit culture is very team-oriented and our admin likes to show willingness to do more than just hang out in our offices. I’m all about that. I'm currently in my final year at uni training to become a music teacher, and I have public Instagram and TikTok accounts where I post covers of the music I'm learning at the time. Some of the pupils from my placement school have found my accounts and have started liking, following and commenting on my posts. I don't mind them seeing the content (it is public after all) but I'm wondering what the best way to handle interactions with them is while still maintaining professionalism. All I was given was a partial contract payout, some memorabilia, and a hand shake. Why do we expect students who have been in a self-contained classroom being taught a heavily modified curriculum to be able to succeed in a general education classroom with 30 students and no additional support? I got a new student today. Nice student. Very polite and excited to be in my classroom. The issue is, this student cannot read. They can write, but only if they are copying what is on the board or another paper. It takes them a couple minutes to write sentences that are 5-10 words. This student comes from our self-contained classroom. Academically no one expects this student to achieve anything close to a high school education. Any grade I give this student will be a lie. Is it just me or is the content of nurse hub for the hesi a2 not the same as last year? I took and passed my hesi a2 last year but had to give up my spot in the nursing program due to life and my score is only good for a year so I have to retake it. I signed back up for nurse hub to review everything again and the content isn’t the same? I’m reviewing the quizzes and am seeing questions about topics that weren’t in the lessons. I know that the chapters were lengthy before and really detailed but it seems they were cut down. Just me? Idk.
