[3/5] App icon

I really enjoy the content and learning Japanese. I do not like the look of the sweaty bird icon. It looks weird and makes me want to move the app somewhere I don’t have to look at it

[4/5] Good app, just not very drawing

Duolingo has always been a great way for me to practice language, and don’t get me wrong it’s helped alot, but I’ve noticed two problems that stops my 5 star. First of all, when typing, words that make sense for the scenario aren’t accepted, and it always has to be their specific word. Like Duo, other words for the same sentence and meaning exist, don’t instantly mark it wrong. Secondly, the app gets very repetitive and boring, and hard to keep up on. I find myself putting it to the side often due to boredom rather than difficulty. I feel like if the app had funner ways of keeping and learning languages, it would be 10 times better. Other than that, it’s a great app. Little antsy on telling you to get super/max, but it makes sense so no points taken off. Please take this review into consideration and enjoy the rest of your day Mr duo, and don’t take my family again, I do my lessons.

[5/5] Day 50 going strong

When you take it seriously it definitely shows. 30 years and I am finally learning my mom’s native language. It takes learning a language from a chore to a game. My whole family is learning Japanese with me. I can’t recommend Duolingo enough.

[1/5] Bring back the old icon and icon customization!

I’ve been a loyal Duolingo user for years with a long streak, and I used to be proud to have the Streak Society icon on my home screen. It was a great motivator and a reward for my consistency. But now, Duolingo has removed the ability to customize the app icon. I’m forced to look at this ugly, creepy icon every single day. It changes to angry or weird expressions if I haven’t done a lesson yet, which feels like manipulation, not motivation. I’ve seen icons that look “sick” with snot, melting, or even with three eyes. It’s unsettling and makes me not even want to open the app. I earned the right to choose my icon through my streak. Taking that away feels like a slap in the face to dedicated users. Please bring back the ability to customize the app icon and stop forcing these awful designs on us.

[5/5] Why you should download Duolingo?

Because I decided to learn Russian and chess and music and I am so great at Russian right now and chess are used. I went from not knowing how the piece is move other than the pond and the queen with just a simple. Game and when I would play with the one on our actual chessboard leave, it have to tell me where I could move but now I can I can easily move every chess piece.

[1/5] The worst app ever

I did not do my Spanish lesson because I was so busy and they decided to take all my progress away, they never understand it, I so busy I can do it a another day or when I’m not busy, so if you have Duolingo app, get ready to get mad at they because if you save your progress and you so busy with stuff, they going to remove your progress and you’re gonna have to do it again or get it back by doing 5 questions to get they back

[2/5] Issues and bugs

If you are trying to learn it might be good to know that Duolingo is shear memorization there is no explaining of grammar or gendered language that would help you understand if you are only using Duolingo you have to make guesses when to use what word for example german has 3 different words for “the” and they all depend on what the subject is but you don’t know what gender each word is or what gender each “the” is. I also know that Duolingo did a mass firing of employees and now uses AI to translate languages of course this leads to worse translations but they could at least have it explain issues with grammar when you get a question incorrect. (Also I did a unit check-in and did it correctly but then the next day i opened the app and a streak freeze had been used because it didn’t register it I opened it later that day and then it registered that I had completed a lesson the previous day but it still didn’t give me my streak freeze back) Another issue is there are multiple ways to tr

[2/5] Forced “Super” on me!

App is cool. I am learning. But the ads are crazy. I guess I put myself on the “super” plan - which I never meant to do. After I’ve completed my lesson, that “super” ad popped up (with no “x” button) and since I got a life and I was in a rush to do the lesson and keep my streaks flowing, I just pressed continue- thinking the that “super” advertisement was going to give me a “yes” or “no” option if I wanted to join (which they didn’t) So I hope they don’t try to charge me. I don’t mind using the free plan (originally) and coming up once a day to do 1-2 lessons. There’s tons of lessons out there that’s free - this app was told from a friend. Other than that, I can go elsewhere.

[4/5] Negative themes

Wonderful app that is teaching me how to speak Spanish. Thank you. I only use Duolingo once a day for one or two lessons. I think it’s offensive to punish me if I miss a day or two by changing my screen icon to look like something evil! I also am offended by earlier lessons that featured same sex dating.

[3/5] Getting worse

I took it off my Home Screen this week because of the obnoxious and ugly icons they keep pushing. My 2k+ streak has suffered for it but I’m not putting this junk on my phone. The cut scenes are getting ridiculous and the heavy upgrade push to an already premium member is too much. The “free for all” push is purely marketing now. It’s a shame, this app used to be so much better. As for this most recent annoyance, this app will not find its way to my home screen until I can set a standard unchanging icon for it.

[1/5] Don't recommend - uses AI and has too many ads

In the past, I thought that Duolingo was great. And it was a decent way to learn languages back then. But now, Duolingo is bad. Very bad. I will go over why it is. 1. Duolingo replaced much of it's staff with AI. Generative AI is horrible because it's entirely based on stealing the hard work of people and mashing it into slop. 2. After every single lesson, you get an ad. Every single ad is just begging you to get a Duolingo subscription. And these ads are very loud, which is extremely annoying. And if you mute the ad, it'll become unmutted when you change the volume on your device.

[1/5] Don’t get this app if you actually want to learn languages

this app used to be alright, it didn’t have paywalls, there were no “lives” and it taught in a relatively linear pattern how a child would learn the language growing up. Now it is just fueled by money and greed. If you want people to learn a language why would you limit the amount of time they can spend learning every day if they don’t pay a subscription. just plain stupidity. but the reality is they don’t want you to learn the language they want you to pay them a subscription every month and hinder you from actually learning so you have to keep paying. this app will give you questions that purposely make you lose hearts so that you can’t continue learning in an attempt to make you buy a subscription. lindo means pretty/cute/beautiful, but they say it means nice so they can purposely make you get questions wrong when they ask you what the word for “nice” is. sometimes it’s simpático sometimes it’s lindo but they never give you enough detail to know for sure. same thing with tu and uste
