Hi everyone, I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or some insight to why I always feel so nauseous in the mornings even though I love my job. For some context, I'm a first year middle school special education teacher who joined mid year within an inclusive model where I am a co-teacher with a diverse caseload of around 13 students. I genuinely have nothing to complain about regarding the job. My coworkers have been supportive, student relationships were often very positive, families were collaborative, etc. I'm even maxed out on the salary scale in terms of education because I worked on earning 2 MA's while working as a para educator in the last 2 years. Everything on paper is as perfect as it gets, and it's been a dream job for me since college. It's something I hold a lot of passion for due to how schools built me up when I was a neglected child surviving poverty in the past. I graduated nursing school a year ago. Always wanted to do psych nurse. I did med surg for a year then went into psych. It did not turn out like what I expected it to be. A lot of paper work and interruption to daily work flow. I don’t mind paper work but paper work while dealing with l behavior is a lot. Maybe im just working in the wrong unit but anywho. I am lost. I’ve always wanted to do psych but it’s not what I love. I don’t mind medical type nursing maybe home health, clinic work, pediatric care/med surg (not er or icu) It’s only been a month into my new role and immediately going to work I feel immense doom and anxiety. so… i’m a new grad nurse . I got this amazing offer that I accepted for a Periop 101 program in the OR. Trauma hospital. I’ve been seeing everywhere online of all nurses saying how hard it is , how mean the surgeons are, how mentally draining taking call is and always being on go… and then the biggest thing, not feeling actually comfortable until 2 years in the OR. I have high anxiety , i’m sensitive, and shy. I’m so nervous about starting and just really scared i’m going to hate it . But to be honest , idk if i would like med surg lol. I know this is an amazing opportunity so I don’t really want to hear comments about that. I just don’t know if this is really going to be as bad as people online say it is or what? Hello, I’m in my 6th year of teaching and got moved from 5th grade ELA down to 3rd ELA. This was not my choice as the previous 3rd grade ELA teacher had a problem with a co-worker and the whole 3rd grade teaching team was split. The 3rd grade teacher was given my 5th grade class and I was told it was moving down to 3rd for me or I was out of a job. My principal made this decision as he said “I think you would be a solid team member in the new 3rd grade team I am building this year.” That principal is not long at my school as the week after he made this change he accepted a position at another school. Long story short, I moved to keep a job as my state was heavily cutting teachers in every school district and I was afraid I would not have a job without it. I had the highest test scores last year in 5th for my whole district but got booted because a veteran teacher couldn’t play nice. About to dive into my first year of teaching as an (old) retired engineer. It wasn't in any advice I saw, but I my instinct when I passed the custodians mopping a floor, and stopped to introduce myself and strike up casual conversation. Became buddies. Instantly paid off...couple days later one knocked on my door and held up the supply request form I'd dropped in the custodians' mailbox, wadded it up and threw it in the trash. "Grab a box" he said. Let me in to supply room, and just started piling tons of stuff in. Said just to see him any time anything is needed "off the books." I just finished my orientation on a mixed PCU/ICU unit and I'm not sure I'm loving it there enough to stay. I left a med surg unit I had been on for about 8 months for this new job. The med surg unit I was on was certainly busy and had its issues with staffing occasionally (as many med surg units do). However, my coworkers there were wonderful, I worked day shift, and although I was busy I felt competent and confident in my work. I even started precepting new grads which scratched this teaching itch I've had for a while too. My manager was very complimentary of me, saying I had what it would take to be a charge nurse and even replace her someday. On this new unit, I work nights (for the first time) which has flipped my life upside down, it makes me feel like a ghost of a person and I wish so bad I could work day shift. I've oriented to day shift at my new job and I don't know if I'd even want to do that based on how busy the workload is for the ICU patients. Plus most shifts I'd get a

I plan on applying to jobs as soon as I pass my NCLEX.. I graduated 7 yrs ago & was recommended to take a refresher course which I will look into. Despite that, I’ve heard that people still have a difficult time landing their first gig. I’m pretty much a nomad so wouldn’t mind looking outside of my state since it’s a busy city. I don’t feel like travel nursing would be a good place to start if I’d even be applicable, knowing I need to regain my clinical knowledge. I have friends/ family in CA, CO, UT & FL so I’d consider those states first. I also have friends / family in CT & NY but I don’t know if I can handle winters there anymore. My nursing career so far hasn’t been super consistent in one area. I started out on a step-down unit on nights for 6 months but didn’t do well at this job and realized critical care was NOT for me. I went to a med-surg oncology floor on nights for 7 months and liked that way better, but struggled a lot with nights and with a long commute. I then worked in an outpatient gyn onc clinic for about a year and a half. This job was a lot of phone triage and not seeing patients in person very much. I LOVE this specialty, but I eventually started to miss bedside and felt like I left prematurely. I moved to an inpatient oncology job on days and have been working there for the past 6 months. I really like this job but feel like a new nurse in some ways and it’s making me feel frustrated. I’m re-learning a lot of skills that I didn’t do very much before (i.e. CBI management, pleurx drain care, etc.). I feel dumb talking to the doctors. I work in a nursing home, and I'm watching our residents suffer because we're constantly short-staffed. When staff don't show up, everyone feels it—but our residents feel it most. Hi everyone, need some advice. First year teacher here. Was offered an 80% position (4 class 1 prep) which may have the possibility of becoming a full schedule (5 class 1 prep). If it is to become a full schedule HR explained it as the additional class is considered an extra duty so the contract/salary would remain at 80%. Job market is competitive in my area, especially for new teachers so I am inclined to accept. What do yall think about this? At what point are you like this is getting to be too much for me to be reaching out and there be no change? I am a nurse going on 6 years. Last year I got caught in some political shit when my hospital was sold and I was not offered a position. It shocked me to my core. Beyond the sucky management I loved my coworkers, my commute was tolerable and the pay was good. After 7 months and 125 applications I finally landed another job. I work Friday and Monday of my weekend off so we can’t really leave town (12 hour shift and 1 hour 45 min drive home) I have up until just recently been driving in and home everyday to see my husband and our dogs. How are you supposed to safely manage all of this at the same time? I had a patient with a Hgb of 6.2 who needed labs drawn from the port because lab wouldn’t draw them, followed by a blood transfusion who also had to poop (assist of 1 with walker). At the same time, I got two new admissions (already in room waiting for me) and had a patient with schizophrenia with a stroke who was a major fall risk, sitting on the edge of the bed despite being unable to safely walk cause of weakness. On top of that, everyone had medications due. Five total-care patients, no CNA/PCT, no charge nurse, and basically no help. How is one nurse realistically supposed to manage all of that safely? At my school, we have no holding areas for students in the morning. Once the bell rings, students are supposed to go straight to class. The problem is, especially for 7th and 8th grade, is these kids will make endless laps around the school walking in the morning. What’s the problem, you may ask? Admin. is always up our asses about getting these kids to class and to stop kids making laps. Well there’s no consequence for students making laps. Some of my past managers have been amazing. I miss them every day. But at some of my past jobs I have had managers that genuinely traumatize me enough for me to get TMS and stronger SSRIs. One of them faked a PIP (HR representative for our unit was on medical leave) on mg third week of orientation and I had to go to a meeting with the Chief Nursing Officer to testify against him. He would pull me and my preceptors off the unit for an hour a day and find reasons to write me up. So HR intervened and stopped him from meeting with me alone, and made another nurse the main manager to interact with coworkers Another one didn’t say anything for months then decided to try and fire me and give me everything I did wrong in one note. Half of it was stuff told to her by a single coworker who doesn’t think I fit into the clique. I was able to prove it wrong but it shook me massively Is this normal? I saw some parody video on YouTube about Open House and meet the teacher. The parents were given ridiculous paperwork they had to fill out for their child and were upset about it. All the teacher did was smile and nod as she continued to make them crash out. It was funny and it's true but the comments on the video were the icing on the cake. It was parents complaining about how they had to go through the same thing at their child's school and how the teachers are spamming them. There were also homeschool fanatics saying 'thank God we homeschool. We could never.' First off, we teachers don't like the apps for grades, the apps for communication, etc. we don't like that we have to have four apps to get in contact with the parents. I am someone who likes organization. I like when things are clean and clear. Obviously, many aspects of life are out of our control, so we must be adaptable to the circumstances we are given. I understand this, so I adapt and try to make the best of the situation I am in. Now, to the reason for this post: Is teaching supposed to be this disorganized? The school I work at is a mess. I cannot overstate enough just how disorganized everything is. I am begrudgingly beginning my second year, and the signs of disorder are already apparent. I was not given access to class materials until two days before students arrived for one of my classes (let's call this Course A). For my other class (Course B), which I found out I was teaching by happenstance, I was not officially told I would be teaching until two days before the students arrived as well. Nothing says “we appreciate teachers” quite like forcing hundreds of them into a cramped auditorium to listen to administrators talk about how excited THEY are for the new school year. Convocation always seems to involve administrators introducing other administrators, celebrating district initiatives, and giving speeches about how important teachers are while teachers sit quietly in the audience mapping their exit plan and trying to put together to do lists. If the goal were actually to appreciate teachers, giving them those 2-3 hours to work in their classrooms would probably mean a lot more. At some point, you have to wonder whether convocation is really a celebration for teachers or just an annual pep rally for central office. So I work as a part time daycare floater. While I could be full time I prefer the flexible hours so I can be with my daughter (20 months) more. There are several children in pre school class that are in diapers or pull ups. As a floater it normal falls to me to change them and while I really don’t mind it’s crazy that these kids are capable of having full blown conversations while I’m changing them like a baby. Here’s the crazier part. They start kindergarten in 2 weeks. We are sending 5 kids to kindergarten in pull ups which at this point they are just treating like a diaper. I don’t even know what to do. These kids are more than capable of using the potty. None of them are neurodivergent. But according to the lead teacher it’s basically learned helplessness. They know mom is going to change them. hi so i just want to go on a bit of a rant and i’d like to hear everyone’s thoughts and opinions on the matter for context, im a new grad working night shift on somewhat of a stepdown/medsurg combination unit in the hospital. my first annoyance is that there are a handful of nurses on day shift that are hell bent on doing shift report at the literal bedside. which i totally understand the importance of including the patient in the conversation and allowing them to hear what is being passed on between shifts, i see the benefits of doing report in the patients room, HOWEVER, my shift ends at 0600, and most of the patients are asleep at that time, so i don’t love when specific nurses demand going into the room, turning on a light, and having a whole ass conversation about the patient in front of them at the ripe hour of 6am. it feels inconsiderate? my second gripe is that i have had MULTIPLE instances giving day shift nurses report at the bedside where they notice something that may be ou
Just to clarify they are not mandated but heavily emphasized and pushed on us at my school. We use this AI program which supposedly links to all this data and student performance records to "craft lesson plans that meet our needs." I personally think they are terrible (and maybe an abuse of student data); on one of the slop lessons it was like 30-40 pages long. On another, it spent like 5 pages to simply say circulate throughout the room and check in with learners to make sure they are on task. I mean my lesson plans are like two pages long max. Who in their right mind is reading 30-40 pages to describe a lesson. Several teachers, myself included, don't use them and refuse to but they are really pushy about AI Slop Lessons and talk about how much time they save and how we could use this time to focus on other areas. I've been firm in my stance about AI with admin that I think it is a cool tool but we need a teacher's touch still when crafting lessons in my classes. Has anyone else had

Following my last post about UNC Hospitals announcing a new staffing system where critical staffing shifts could be awarded based on the lowest bid , nurses spoke up and the reaction on social media was strong. UNC Hospitals leadership has now released a statement acknowledging the concerns and apologizing for the original communication. In the statement, leadership clarified that although the platform has a bidding feature, the bidding function will NOT be used at UNC Hospitals. They stated that nurses should not be competing against one another for shifts and that this does not reflect the collaborative culture they want to support. the above pay scale is Massachusetts general hospital (mgh) i don’t work there but did obtain the scale above I work at: Mount Auburn hospital It falls under the beth Israel lahey umbrellla and I’m writing about it in order to compare it to the best paid hospital in the city I’m perhaps more towards the bottom.. Mount Auburn is in Cambridge MA and they are like this: they do not give the chart with each yr of experience and the pay associated with it. It’s a small community non-union hospital as expected. The pay is not top-tier. I have about 10 years of experience and get just over 60 an hour. I would consider this non-competitive, especially given the benefits are not good. Either an MGH nurse with like three years less experience will make that amount and have way better also only get a yearly 2% raise health insurance is so so tuition reimbursement is 35 per year for holidays. You have to use your me is about 230 to 250 hours I think it’s a nice place to everybody’s nice but that d
